Island Space and Place
My creative practice is most often shared between film, paint and poetry.
With my island heritage at the heart of each project, I create and curate a collection of work through different mediums in response to the sense of belonging and place instilled within me as a result of growing up on an island.
I use film as a connection between the subject and myself, with sound and light to represent belonging to a place. This combines with a piece of poetry to visit, or revisit, a place from the past and reflect on my place in that space. I use the light and colours in my paintings to represent a memory of a place, whether it be accurate to a physical location or a representation of the past or future, the paintings act as a static memory made to collect and share, bringing a connection between myself, the audience and the environment.
